How we select our materials and production partners

Our treasures should be created under fair working conditions. Therefore, we assess our materials, packaging and suppliers against our internal buying requirements. These requirements are set out in our buying policy, which covers materials, packaging and working conditions. And it’s about time we started spreading the word.
Materials and Certifications
At Anna + Nina, we carefully select the materials used in our jewellery collections. Depending on the design, our pieces are made with materials such as silver, gold, freshwater pearls and gemstones. We create jewellery with the intention that it can be worn and enjoyed for a long time.
True Craftmanship
We cherish the craftsmanship of handmade products. We create all of our items with care and love, and they are unique due to minor inconsistencies or imperfections. But handicraft means more than putting love and attention into the product. It also means creating jobs and maintaining traditional ways of working.
People
We cherish our long-term relationships and are a supportive partner for the people who create Anna + Nina products. This gives the manufacturers and their employees security. We only work directly with factories and not with intermediaries, and we have mapped out the manufacturers that make our products.
The next steps
We are proud of how we have established Anna + Nina as a company and the steps we have already taken, but we always see opportunities for improvement. Last year, we tightened up our buying policy. This focuses on our collection, materials for products and packaging, and our suppliers.

FAQ
How do we select and verify materials and suppliers?
We want our treasures to be created under fair working conditions, with minimal negative impact on the environment. Therefore, we analysed our suppliers and raw materials and created a sustainable buying policy. We focus on the following areas: craftsmanship and handicrafts (goldsmiths, ceramists, glassblowers, painters, embroiderers, etc.), sustainable production, and packaging
Why is our jewellery wrapped in plastic?
While we aim to minimise our use of plastic, it sometimes remains the best option. Plastic provides a barrier against moisture, preventing jewellery from oxidising during transport. For each product, we assess available material and packaging options based on their composition, technical requirements and available supplier documentation. As a result, some of our jewellery products are still wrapped in plastic.
Our jewellery is handmade, but where and by whom?
As we have a passion for craftsmanship, our jewellery is produced by manufacturing partners in Thailand, Spain and China. The production location depends on the individual product and is listed on the relevant product page where available.
Where do we produce our collections?
Inspired by our travels to exotic places like Thailand, Bali, and India, we've embraced the rich colours, intricate details, and unique designs for which the Asian continent is renowned. Because we adore the style and craftsmanship, a significant portion of our jewellery is still produced in Asia. However, we've also been captivated by the art of glass blowing in Egypt and the pottery designs from Portugal.
Our collections are inspired by our travels. We work with specialist makers for selected product categories, including ceramics painted in Portugal and glassware mouth-blown in Egypt. Our collections are produced by manufacturing partners in Thailand, Spain, China, Egypt, Portugal and Italy. The specific production location and production method vary by product and are stated on the relevant product page where applicable.
What do we create in our Anna + Nina Atelier
It's a place where you can drool over the prettiest and one-of-a-kind 14K jewellery. Our teeny-tiny Atelier is where our experienced goldsmith does what she does best. She creates, remakes, and engraves 14K rings, earrings and necklaces, and she double-checks all our vintage treasures to make sure that they are of the highest quality and can last a lifetime and beyond.
What makes our Atelier different from any other boutique is that we're not only selling our beloved items but also that you can create your own designs together with our goldsmith.
You can even get your ears pierced by one of our Anna + Nina girls. And if you want to get your jewels polished or engraved, that's no problem either. For any questions, you can just stop by; we're happy to tell you everything about certain gemstones, our vintage loves, and our own collections.

What happens with defect items?
Returned items are assessed individually. Depending on their condition and material, an item may be repaired, reused for parts, recycled where an appropriate process is available, or sold during a sample sale.
How do you verify the sourcing of your gemstones?
We request information about material composition and available certification documents from our suppliers. Certification status is only communicated when the relevant documentation covers the specific material or product.
