Vintage Stories: Christmas Edition

There’s something magical about Christmas, the glow of fairy lights, the scent of pine and tangerines, and the nostalgia that warms even the coldest nights. For Vintage Stories: Christmas Edition, we shared treasured memories and keepsakes, from glittering heirlooms to childhood trinkets. This collection celebrates that spirit: the beauty of old stories, the shimmer of sentiment, and the joy of giving something that already feels timeless. Whether as a gift or for yourself, let this drop inspire your own vintage Christmas memory.

“I love vintage jewellery for Christmas; pieces that stay with your family forever.” - Anna de Lanoy Meijer

What’s your favourite Christmas memory from years gone by?

Anna: In my family, Christmas is really big; we go all out. We grew up in the UK, and my brothers went to boarding school, so Christmas was one of the few times of the year when we were all together in the same house. I used to love that.

Nina: My favourite Christmas memory takes me back to Christmas Eve, when we would dress in our finest and make our way to Midnight Mass. Inside the church stood a towering fifteen-metre Christmas tree drenched in glowing lights. The rest of the space was dim, illuminated only by flickering candles that cast soft, golden reflections across the pews. The combination of hush, grandeur, and warm light felt utterly transformative, almost otherworldly. It was pure holiday magic.

Was there a particular piece of jewellery, clothing or accessory you always wore at Christmas?

Anna: We used to dress up, wear a dress, jewellery, and we would spend a lot of time setting a beautiful table…

Nina: When I was a child, Christmas Eve held a special kind of anticipation. I looked forward to slipping into my black patent shoes and my Christmas dress in classic red tartan. Even then, the ritual felt exquisite, like stepping into a little world of holiday pageantry and warmth.

What did Christmas look like in your home? Which scents, colours or little details bring those memories back?

Anna: I grew up in a big house in the middle of a forest. We really lived outdoors. I remember the scent of the forest, our fireplace, and my mum’s mandarins and chestnuts at Christmas. We used to spray snow on the windows, and the whole house would be decorated.

Nina: I grew up in a romantic little cottage with charming chequered-pane windows, and every year my mother would decorate the entire exterior for Christmas. Now I adore the memory, the sparkle, the whimsy, the wholehearted joy of it all. But back then, as a teenager, I couldn’t help feeling a little embarrassed by the spectacle. Funny how things change.

If you could relive one Christmas tradition from your childhood, what would it be and why?

Anna: My parents hosted a big family dinner. All my nephews, cousins, brothers, aunts, uncles… We all gathered in the kitchen and then around a big table in the dining room. My aunt would play Christmas carols on the piano, and we would stand around her and sing along. I used to love that!

Nina: The cosily dressed table in my parents’ home, where the glow of candles and the careful layering of textures always made the moment feel intimate and beautifully considered.

“The sparkle, the whimsy, the wholehearted joy of my mother’s decorations, I adore that memory now.” - Nina Poot

Which item (a piece of jewellery, decoration or keepsake) captures the magic of Christmas for you?

Anna: I love vintage jewellery for Christmas. Christmas, to me, is chic. I also love buying really beautiful table accessories, like silver, that can stay with my family forever. I adore eccentric baubles and ornaments, and going a little overboard with Christmas is my favourite…

Nina: The Red Christmas Globe is the ultimate holiday object (launching on 27th November), a tiny world of light and wonder that transports you straight back to the magic of childhood.
