General Aftercare
Clean the piercing (except for tongue, lip, or mouth piercings) twice a day with a mild, unscented soap or a sterile saline solution during the healing period. Pat it dry with a clean towel or tissue. Keep the piercing as dry as possible for the rest of the day.
During the healing process, pay attention to the following:
1. Avoid touching the piercing as much as possible.
2. Do not apply ointment to the wound or use antiseptics like Sterilon or Betadine (unless advised by a doctor).
3. Ensure that no hairspray, gel, or other products come near your piercing.
4. Do not cover the piercing with a bandage (only temporarily during sports).
5. Avoid wearing tight or dirty clothing over the piercing.
6. Avoid (bubble) baths, swimming pools, saunas, and steam baths.
7. Never remove the piercing yourself.
Note: The skin around your piercing may become red and swollen immediately after piercing, and this is normal. However, contact your doctor if:
- You are concerned about the healing process.
- You become ill or develop a fever within a few days after getting the piercing.
- Physical symptoms like itching and redness do not decrease within 48 hours after piercing.
- You develop new symptoms 24 hours after the piercing, or if existing symptoms worsen.
- You want to remove the piercing during the healing process (e.g., due to complaints or signs of migration or rejection).
