Celebrate True Craftmanship
How we create a more conscious collection
“At Anna + Nina, we develop our collections carefully and consciously. We pay attention to every detail and want to bring joy, colour, and a touch of magic into everyday life. “Celebrate True Craftsmanship” is our way to go. We do everything with love, care, and attention to detail, whether it’s in the choice of material, the design process, the production of a collection, or the way we do business.” – Anna & Nina
Our treasures should be created under fair working conditions, with minimal negative impact on the world. Therefore, we’ve been making conscious decisions for years, analysed our suppliers and raw materials, and have a sustainable buying policy in place, and it’s about time we start to spread the word.
Sustainable Materials
At Anna+Nina, we believe in the power of high-quality materials that not only look beautiful, but also retain their value. That’s why we use premium materials like silver, gold, freshwater pearls and gemstones in our jewelry collections. Our pieces are designed to be cherished and passed on for generations.
True Craftmanship
We cherish the craftsmanship of handmade products. We create all of our items with care and love and they are unique due to minor inconsistencies or imperfections. But handicraft means more than put- ting love and attention into the product. It also means creating jobs and maintaining traditional ways of working.

Our Goals
To take things to the next level, we’ve set ambitious targets to increase the share of (certified) sustainable materials in our collections. We ask our suppliers to prioritise sourcing these materials whenever possible.
The next steps
We are proud of how we have established Anna + Nina as a company and the steps we have already taken, but we always see opportunities for improvement. Last year, we tightened up our buying policy. This focuses on our collection, materials for products and packaging, and our suppliers.
We will keep you informed in every step of the progress and we would love to hear from you if you see opportunities for improvement. In addition, since we are committed to being completely transparent with you, we want to encourage you to send any additional questions you may have to sustainability@anna-nina.nl.
FAQ
What do we do in terms of sustainability?
We want our treasures to be created under fair working conditions, with minimal negative impact on the environment. Therefore, we analysed our suppliers and raw materials and created a sustainable buying policy. We focus on the following areas: craftsmanship and handicrafts (goldsmiths, ceramists, glassblowers, painters, embroiderers, etc.), sustainable production, and packaging
Why is our jewellery wrapped in plastic?
While we aim to minimise our use of plastic, it sometimes remains the best option. Plastic provides a barrier for moisture, preventing jewellery from oxidising during transport. We actively seek alternatives that are renewable and recyclable, but for now, some of our jewellery products are still wrapped in plastic.
Our jewellery is handmade, but where and by whom?
As we have a passion for handicrafts, all our jewellery is handmade by talented craftspeople in various countries. The specific production location depends on the item, but we produce our jewellery in Thailand, Spain, and China.
Where do we produce our collections?
Inspired by our travels to exotic places like Thailand, Bali, and India, we've embraced the rich colours, intricate details, and unique designs for which the Asian continent is renowned. Because we adore the style and craftsmanship, a significant portion of our jewellery is still produced in Asia. However, we've also been captivated by the art of glass blowing in Egypt and the pottery designs from Portugal.
Our collections are inspired by our travels, so we endeavour to collaborate with local artisans wherever possible. The specific production location depends on the item, but we manufacture our products in Thailand, Spain, China, Egypt, Portugal, and Italy.
What do we create in our Anna + Nina Atelier
It's a place where you can drool over the prettiest and one-of-a-kind 14K jewellery. Our teeny-tiny Atelier is where our experienced goldsmith does what she does best. She creates, remakes, and engraves 14K rings, earrings and necklaces, and she double-checks all our vintage treasures to make sure that they are of the highest quality and can last a lifetime and beyond.
What makes our Atelier different from any other boutique is that we're not only selling our beloved items but also that you can create your own designs together with our goldsmith.
You can even get your ears pierced by one of our Anna + Nina girls. And if you want to get your jewels polished or engraved, that's no problem either. For any questions, you can just stop by; we're happy to tell you everything about certain gemstones, our vintage loves, and our own collections.
Visit our Atelier at Gerard Doustraat 94 in Amsterdam or contact us at herengracht@anna-nina.nl.
What happens with defect items?
All the items that we take back due to a defect or items with a production mistake are given a second life. Our jewellery is mainly made of high-quality materials that retain their value, so we can often melt the material and reuse it. Other items, like homeware, we might sell during one of our sample sales for a reduced price.
Are the gemstones used ethically sourced?
We have set ambitious targets to increase the share of certified sustainable materials in our collections. This presents a particular challenge for gemstones, as many suppliers do not yet offer certified materials. Our high-quality standards and specific requests are not available from just any supplier. For instance, our gemstones are handpicked and cut for each item.
We ask our suppliers to prioritise sourcing these certified sustainable materials whenever possible, and we will assist them in making this happen.
